ALS Liga - Ligue SLA and Serviceplan are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the ALS Bucket Challenge, but without its creators
21.06.2024
The famous ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is celebrating its 10th anniversary! From Taylor Swift to Mark Zuckerberg, from New York to Seoul and Paris, the whole world took part in this challenge, which consisted of pouring ice water over yourself and nominating people you knew to do the same. To this day, it is one of the most viral trends for a medical cause, raising the profile of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) and raising millions of donations in many countries.
To mark ALS World Day on 21 June, ALS Liga and Serviceplan are celebrating 10 years of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The 3 people behind the project were honoured: Pete Frates, Anthony Senerchia and Pat Quinn. Guests who unfortunately will not be taking part in this anniversary, as they have since passed away from ALS.
As a result, Pete, Anthony and Pat will never see what their actions have made possible: more scientific discoveries, more options in terms of care, and people who still take turns running the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge today. The idea behind this campaign is to perpetuate their initiative and preserve this legacy.
With this action, ALS Liga - Ligue SLA is also relaunching an appeal for donations, punctuated by a 3km walk organised on 21 June, from their office in Leuven to the ALS laboratories.
