Ligue Braille/Brailleliga and Serviceplan initiate a movement for an inclusive textile industry: the Talkie-Beanie campaign with Bshirt Rocks
04.11.2024
Serviceplan, in collaboration with Ligue Braille/Brailleliga and the Belgian streetwear brand ‘BShirt Rocks’, is proud to announce the launch of the ‘Talkie-Beanie’ campaign, a pioneering initiative that aims to make the textile industry inclusive for the blind and visually impaired.
At the heart of the campaign is the ‘Talkie-Beanie’, a beanie designed to help the visually impaired navigate everyday clothing decisions. The beanie features a QR code inside, which, when scanned, makes information accessible through speech synthesis technology on the blind and visually impaired’ smartphone. This technology reads aloud key details such as the color of the garment and washing instructions, enabling the visually impaired to dress independently and care for their clothes without external assistance.
"The 'Talkie-Beanie' is much more than a trendy gadget. It’s a statement - a reminder that even the simplest daily tasks, like choosing clothes and sorting laundry, can be real challenges for visually impaired individuals," explains Nancy Delhalle, COO of Serviceplan Group. "Moreover, with this project, our agency aims to meet the European Union’s 2030 sustainability goals for a more sustainable textile industry. When we consider that 30 million Europeans suffer from visual impairments*, a number that is increasing due to the aging population, we realize that this project addresses many of society’s challenges. This is why Serviceplan has also initiated discussions with key players in the textile sector to accelerate the adoption of a new standard for garment care."
