Production houses, listen up: the age of AI has arrived. It’s no longer a distant possibility but a powerful reality, reshaping how we create, ideate, and execute. Just when we had finally adjusted to the nightmare of content creators dominating with their “low-budget, do-it-all” approach, we now face a more formidable challenge: Artificial Intelligence.
But as we reflect on the past, did the content creator era really spell the end of traditional production houses? Not quite. As the dust settled, it became clear that while content creators brought new opportunities, they couldn’t fully replace the expertise of seasoned production teams. The job descriptions, roles, and expectations evolved. Clients quickly realized there was no substitute for real strategy, meticulous planning, and well-executed productions.
Take my experience, for instance: Two days into a shoot, we discovered the content creator we’d hired – at the client’s request – had double-booked himself. Our set was scheduled to start rolling at 8 a.m., but he had another commitment at 11. He genuinely believed he could dash out, shoot for two hours elsewhere, and then seamlessly return. At that moment, I realized just how spectacularly the client’s expectations and this creator’s ad-hoc approach were bound to collide. Luckily, we managed to wrap up without disaster, but we vowed never to hire content creators outside the guardrails of a production house.
And now, we face something even more unsettling: the era of AI. A tool so versatile it’s sending shivers down the spines of not just production houses but agencies and even clients. The fear is understandable – AI can, in theory, replace anyone. It can craft scripts, create visuals, animate sequences, edit content, perform voiceovers, and churn out scene after scene without a hiccup. It can ideate, generate, and polish content at lightning speed, making execution feel effortless.
Yet, here's the twist: while AI might replace anyone, it won’t replace everyone.
This is where the concept of execution as the new creative comes in. We’ve entered an era where being good at ideation isn’t enough. Creativity no longer stops at “what if”; it extends to “how will we make it happen in a way that’s never been done before?” Imagine being able to iterate on ideas instantly, without budget constraints or logistical hurdles. With AI, a script doesn’t just exist on paper – it transforms into a visual, fully realized concept that can be perfected over countless variations in minutes.
Think about it: the artistry of execution is now where true creativity thrives. It’s not just about coming up with big ideas but exploring how to bring them to life in ways that captivate and push boundaries. With AI, you’re no longer limited to one vision. You can experiment endlessly, from lighting and camera angles to character expressions and visual effects. Want to test a thousand ways a car can move between scenes? Done. Need to try every possible color palette or atmosphere for a critical shot? Easy. With AI, execution is limitless.
Master these tools, and you transform from just a creator into a visionary executor. AI doesn’t diminish the need for human artistry; it enhances it. It turns execution into an art form, where the possibilities are as infinite as your imagination. The true innovators won’t just be the idea generators but those who excel at executing with finesse, precision, and an understanding of culture, emotion, and strategy.
So, in an AI world, execution truly is the new creative. It’s where technology and imagination merge, redefining what it means to create and setting a new standard for excellence. And that’s where the magic happens.
